There's so much wrong with this law, people who oppose it must keep speaking out. The worst action is to do nothing. Remember, we really don't have much of an undocumented immigrant problem in Alabama compared to some states. Yet, the Legislature passed a law that is so over-the-top, it makes Alabama look like it's trying to target a certain group of people.
Even the law's co-sponsor said one of the intents of the law was to make life so miserable for undocumented residents that they'd flee to another state. That's working, apparently, for both undocumented residents and legal immigrants, along with even U.S. citizens of Hispanic descent who are afraid to get caught up in a police-state mentality that targets people who look a certain way.
It's not as if Alabama doesn't have a history here, folks. If we appreciated that, we would have passed a more reasonable law that focused on the size of Alabama's problem. Most of it could be cleaned up by just using E-Verify, especially once the federal government works the kinks out of the system.
